London tops rankings for foreign investment

London tops the table of regions in the UK with the greatest amount of foreign investment, according to figures published by the ONS.
The value of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the capital reached £660.8bn in 2019, representing 42 per cent of the aggregate amount of inward FDI in the UK.
The value of FDI in London was three times higher than its closest regional rival, the South East, which attracted £197.6bn in foreign funding.

The ONS’ figures suggest that for every job in London, there was £108,656 of FDI. Scotland came third, registering £85.9bn in FDI.
The statistics examine ultimate parent companies behind foreign direct investment.
US funnels greatest amount of investment into UK
American businesses channeled £562.5bn into the UK, the greatest amount of investment all nations, according to the ONS’ statistics.
Japan ranked second, holding ultimate control of almost £105bn of FDI into the UK.
EU companies held ultimate control of £523.7bn of the UK’s FDI.
